GuyEngine V2

- Arpeggiator/step sequencer (1 for each timbre) - 128 steps! Create arpeggios, beats, or even a song?!
IMPORTANT!
GuyEngine V2 is a completely new plugin, and NOT just an update of GuyEngine. Any projects you may have saved using GuyEngine will still require the original, unless of course you decide to replace it within that project.
GuyEngine, and GuyEngine V2 are a single purchase which includes both, but honestly the original is obsolete.
P.S. The download for GuyEngine 1 will remain here just in case!
Purchase
In order to download this plugin you must purchase it at or above the minimum price of $39.99 USD. Your purchase comes with a Steam key. You will get access to the following files:

Hey, having some trouble uploading the plug ins. doesnt seem to be showing up in my Logic. think you can help? thanks
Hi! First off i just want to say that Im so glad that you are making these plugins! I have been looking for something like this for a long time, and these seem to really deliver what I was missing! Good job!
I bought the bundle, and unfortunately I can't get most of these plugins to work. I have a M2 Max Mac studio running Logic Pro 11. I have tried everything, but DS, SPS and Materia won't work. Is there something that Im doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!
Hey thanks so much for your comment! You're not doing anything wrong - we haven't yet applied the same Mac compatibility patch from GuyEngine to all of the plugins yet, but we are working on it. It will be done very soon!
ok, good to know! Thanks for the reply :)
Was the sample archive .zip removed when the updated .vst files uploaded?
Oops! Just added it
Just saw your video on the JV-1080, very cool.
Thank you very much! ๐
Does this work with Cubase 8/9?
Yes! You should have no trouble with Cubase ๐
Came here to report convolution issues on MacOS, but looks like you're already on it! Absolutely loving V2 so far, thanks for all your hard work :)
Thank you! Hope to have it fixed soon ๐ค
love the V2 update! but for some reason, the convolution feature isn't working for me at all. im on MacOS.
We're getting multiple reports of this, and working on it! Thanks for letting me know! As soon as it's fixed, it'll be updated.
how do I get v2, because I already own v1.
This video will show you exactly how to get it!
I am no longer seeing the samples download on the downloads page. Is there anywhere that this has moved to?
sorry about that! Oversight in my part. Just fixed
If we've purchased the original, do we just request an email key to the V2?
Your key from V1 will work in V2! ๐ซก
I figured it out like right after posting, lol.
Thank you though!
Hey there, I've been loving the plugin, you've really made an amazing selection of synths here, and I plan on using it in a PSX-styled game I'm making.
However, as some have mentioned, it causes my DAW to crash whenever I try opening a project that uses the plugin (reaper just immediately closes when I open it, and gives me a warning next time I try opening it), I've never had this issue with any other VSTs.
I tried what you mentioned, uninstalling the plugin completely and reinstalling it, but the issue persists.
I'm using Reaper 6.81, Windows 11 64bits
System info, if relevant:

This is the warning I get when trying to re-open, not very descriptive lol

Hey thanks for mentioning this. I'm still not sure what is causing this critical error! I am reaching out to the programmer of the tool that I used to create this (Maize Sampler) to troubleshoot. I'm going to keep working on it in the meantime.
Hey quick question - did you happen to update the plugin between sessions?
Heyy, thanks for the quick reply! I didn't update it, no.
I've been trying to open the same project, and this seems to be a bit inconsistent. After trying like 15-20 times, it finally opened again, with no errors, and it seems to be working normally. This happened before tho, and then when I close the project again, and try to re-open, it breaks.
Hey I just wanted to come back and ask again about this. Are you still having this issue?
I spoke to someone else who had the same issue, and for them it seemed related to ASIO drivers. Do you find this to be true for you as well?
Love GuyEngine! It's been a lot of fun to create with. Is there anyway to zoom in or otherwise make the ADSR knobs a little more visible? My old man eyes have a hard time with em sometimes!
Hey thanks! I'm really glad you like it! I'm currently working on a way to make the UI scale-able but it's probably going to be a while. That said, a more short term solution is that I'll probably adjust the knob sizes for the next update since this is a pretty common concern.
Either way, some kind of fix is coming as soon as I can get to it!
Thanks for your comment!
Hey! Any future plans to make an AAX version? I can't get it to work in Pro Tools. Thanks.
Hey, thanks for supporting GuyEngine! Unfortunately there won't be an AAX version of this plugin. It was made using Maize which doesn't export as AAX unfortunately. I've noticed that other folks who use Pro Tools have been able to get it working. Could you describe what the issue is for me?
Worst case scenario, I'll just give you a full refund - but I'd like to get it working if possible!
I have extracted the .zip and moved the vst3 file to the right folder, but its just not showing up in my library. I assumed it was because vst3 is not natively supported in pro tools, but then I also tried loading it in Waves's StudioRack but it wasn't there either. Any help is appreciated!
Unfortunately I can't speak to GuyEngine's functionality alongside any 3rd party apps, plugins, or chaining tools. You're right that VST3 isn't supported in Pro Tools, but VST2 is (if I'm not mistaken) and there is a VST2 version of GuyEngine. You may have better luck with that. It's not a very resource intensive plugin so it should still perform fine. The VST2 version is functionally identical and draws content from the same files. Would you be willing to give that a try instead?
I'm unfortunately having the exact same problem with the vst2 version. I've extracted the GuyEngine 1.0.4 VST2 .zip folder into the C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins folder which didn't work. I've also tried the C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST2\ folder which also didn't work. I should also note that there are functional plugins that exist in both of these folders, so I just really have no idea why GuyEngine won't appear in my library. If you have any other ideas on what I can try, please let me know. I really would love to use this plugin!! Thanks.
Thanks for your patience. I'm gonna keep troubleshooting this in Pro Tools myself. If you're comfortable with it, you could join the discord and then add me from there and we can correspond a bit more easily. Discord
how do I find my verification key im completely lost
Itch should email it to you!
Is there any way to turn off the hyperlink to the SoundFontGuy Youtube page? in Logic this makes the plugin almost unusable as pressing enter is the DAW default for moving the playhead to start. With the VST open pressing enter opens a new browser window for SoundFontGuy Youtube page if you have the plugin open and press enter. This issue makes the plugin highly problematic to use in Logic.
Hmm, I'm not sure why any keystroke at all is triggering that button. I'll look into that for the next update.
Thanks I appreciate it. I would like to use the plug-in more, but this makes it really hard.
Hi, lovely work going on here. It's much appreciated!
Any plans of taking the Racer Guy RG4 soundfont over to GuyEngine as an expansion?
Yes, I will probably port that to GuyEngine. Not all of my soundfonts will be ported over, but I think a few of them have unique enough samples that it makes sense to incorporate them.
I cannot load my project correctly anymore in FL studio 24.

Hey, thanks for your comment. Sorry to hear that you're having trouble. From what I can tell from the crash log, this looks like an issue within FL Studio that commonly happens with third party plugins.
Here are some steps that may help:
- Report the issue to Image-Line
- Completely uninstall GuyEngine, and remove it from your plugin list
- Open a new FL project and scan for plugins
- Close FL Studio
- Reinstall the latest version of GuyEngine
- Open FL Studio to a blank project
- Scan for plugins
- Add GuyEngine to the blank project
- Test all 4 discs to be sure it installed correctly
This should solve the issue, but in case it doesn't, please reach out to Image-Line as this is a very common error when it comes to FL Studio and third-party plugins like this.
Huh! Looks like this issue spans across multiple DAWs. Saved a project with 4 instances of GuyEngine yesterday and went to open it today, resulting in this error.
System Info in case that helps! DAW is Cubase Pro 13.0.50 Build 318 (x64).
Hey, thanks for reaching out. This is an odd error that I haven't seen before, so it may take some troubleshooting. I'm not super familiar with Cubase myself, so the steps I'm going to outline might not be 1:1.
Which version of GuyEngine do you have installed?
Does this error persist in a fresh project with an instance of GuyEngine loaded?
This is what I suggest to troubleshoot -
1. Completely remove GuyEngine and all of its components for your computer
2. Open your daw, scan for plugins and make sure that GuyEngine is completely gone and not detected anywhere
3. Reinstall GuyEngine
4. Scan for plugins again
5. Start a new project and open an instance of GuyEngine - if it works, you may have to re-enter your registration key for the 4 main discs.
6. Open your previous project
Let me know if that works - if not, we'll keep working at it!
Sounds are great, but so far on MAC Using Reaper, Machine, and several other DAWs the experience has been very buggy. it has a lot of trouble accepting MIDI inputs from my keyboards/controllers, will randomly hold note and not respond for long periods of time, but inside software (clicking the keys on the UI) still works somehow? Not really sure what's going on there.
Hey thanks for reaching out about this. This is the first time this has been reported, so it may take some troubleshooting. I'm gonna throw a list of questions at you - some of them might seem dumb, but bear with me!
- What version of MacOS are you using?
- What audio interface driver are you using?
- What kind of MIDI controller are you using?
- Are you using the VST2, VST3, or AU version of the plugin?
- What's your buffer size set to?
- Can you check if there are any error messages in your DAWs' logs?
- Have you checked the MIDI monitor to see if signals are being sent/received correctly?
This stuff should help get closer to an understanding of what's going on and hopefully get a solution in order!
Hi, i had an issue with getting my activation key after purchasing, once i signed into steam to obtain the key, it said "There are no keys available at this time, try again later" can you send me a key please?
Edit: issue fixed, i had a code from the evil pig guy purchase and that worked for all discs!
Hi, this is an issue with itch labeling this as a "Steam key" but it's got nothing to do with Steam at all. I'm sorry about that. Since you purchased, you should be able to download the file directly from the page here on itch. They key you received will be entered into the plugin itself when opening it for the first time.
Sorry for the confusion! - itch has no method to get rid of the word "Steam" so it's kind of stuck that way.
No worries, and thank you. I am loving the product so far, these sounds are super nostalgic and very convincing! excited to really put them to use on a composition.
I cannot stress enough how I think GuyEngine will become the standard for GameDevs / Composers trying to capture the 32bit / Retro era of sound design.
An absolute staple going forward for my Gamejam and comissioned work.
Thank you very much, that's very kind!
Is it possible to make the controls accessible in the DAW? For instance, in Ableton you can typically add plug-in parameters to the bottom panel, which can then be automated within Ableton.
Otherwise it sounds great, thanks!
Hey, great question! The controls should be accessible in the DAW! Are they not showing up in Ableton?
I'm on MacOS and Ableton 10. I click the "Configure" button on the plug-in panel in Ableton, but then when I click on parameters in the VST's window it doesn't add parameter controls like it should. I tried it with an Arturia VST and that worked fine.
Hmm that's odd. I'll need some time to look into that, that's very weird. Especially since the functions are present on the UI. I'll start sniffing that one out.
Plugin works great except one thing that seems bugged, the Evil Pig Guy addon instruments are all playing the steel drum sound with them.
Oh snap! Let me fix that! Thanks for letting me know!
Okay, should be fixed now. If you download the new file and replace the old one, everything should be smooth. Thanks again for letting me know!
On the download page it's still the same file as before, at least for me. And no problem!
Should be good now!
Hi, is it possible to reproduce sounds like the old resident evil ones :)
The plugin does have some sounds that are reminiscent of Resident Evil, but I think RE deserves its own expansion. Something to think about!
I listen to RE a lot. Everybody around me loves it. DO IT. Definitely going to buy soon. Yeah I'm that broke lol.
yes please do it <3
I got the full version now and there is lots of amazing stuff to make retro video game music with. I think, this one will definitely end up in one of my Cubase templates.
Just one thing I noticed: The drawbar organ seems to have a bugged sample-loop in higher registers. It's especially apparent when you play long sustained chords. Other than that, I don't think I've found any bugs.
Nice catch, thanks for the heads up! I just fixed the loop point and it'll be reflected in the next update.
Love the core idea/presentation of this VST but it needs to be registered very often. Is there a way to get it to stay registered between projects/VST instances? I'm using it in FL Studio in case that helps.
Hey thanks for your comment. This is the first I've heard of this issue, so let me see if I can help you!
You will have to register each "disc" one time - but after that there should be no trouble. Try using the "register" button rather than the window that pops up when you start it.
Try this:
Now any project that is using GuyEngine - regardless of number of instances - should be registered permanently.
Let me know if that helps!
OOH it's probably just that I wasn't aware the discs needed seperate registration, that's a little unintuitive so it might be worth clarifying that in the install instructions as it lead to a slightly confusing first impression. Had a lot of fun with the plugin yesterday.
Haha it's actually in the installation instructions that are included with the download! You're right that it's unintuitive, unfortunately I'm bound by the limitations of the program that I used to make the plugin. Please feel free to reach out if any other issues arise!
Ahh my mistake, I was looking at itch for install instructions.
Might be an idea to ammend the line "It says you will receive a "steam key" - but the key is actually to register the plugin when you run it, nothing to do with Steam." to add something about activating the discs separately and set expectations about how regtistering works more clearly as I made my assumption based on this.
That's good advice. I'll update the description so it's more transparent.
As for the steam key, itch unfortunately won't let me change that, for reasons unknown ๐
Does this have sounds of the N64?
It doesn't actually have any sounds from real games - all of these samples are 100% original. But they are inspired by the Nintendo 64, PlayStation and Sega Saturn.
Very, very nice. Already started making yume nikki type stuff with it. Def recommend it, especially for the price tag.
Thank you!
Oh my god, sir you are amazing. I hate sound designing, some days it just gets in the way. But this is awesome, no virus nothing bs like that. I had a false positive but there's no issue in the files, rest assured. I think its worth the purchase. Keep it up, I'll be browsing SoundFontGuys shop now, see ya!
Thank you very much!!
