GuyEngine V2 -1.1.0
What's new in version 1.1.0?
I'm very excited about this update because two major functions are finally implemented.
The first of those is (drumroll please)...
A sampler! Many many people have been asking for a way to load their own external samples into GuyEngine, and now you can! This sampler works sort of like an additional timbre, but with a few differences.
Sampler functions
1. Load external sample (duh)
2. ADSR and volume controls
3. Root note selection (by number, where middle C is 60)
4. Loop toggle - if your sample has embedded loop points, it will loop at those points. Otherwise, it will simply loop the entire audio file.
5. Pitch tracking toggle on/off
6. Reverse
7. Trim/cut - drag the ends of the wave to trim
8. Start point randomizer - This one is pretty cool. It randomizes the starting point of the playback of your sample. This is great for a kind of pseudo-round robin effect when using certain looping samples like synths.
9. Power on/off - Just like the other timbres, you can power it off to silence it or save a bit of processing power (it uses very little anyway).
Note: the sampler does not have a dedicated arpeggiator, LFO or filters.
The second function is... Expansion Support!
For now, there is a dropdown menu above the preset browser which allows the user to swap between factory content and expansion content. IF you don't have any expansions, it will simply show Factory content.
How Expansions Work:
Expansions for GuyEngine V2 are similar to GuyEngine V1 in that they are libraries of additional content. When accessing that dropdown menu and choosing an expansion, all 3 timbres will have their respective drop down menu content swapped out with the expansion content.
Additionally, expansions will come with their own set of presets. These presets can be accessed via the browser by clicking on the desired expansion, and then simply browsing what's available. In most cases, these will simply correspond directly with the items available in the Timbre dropdown menus, with the exception of custom presets and multitimbral sounds.
Known bugs:
- When switching between factory and expansion content via the drop down, the Timbre's drop down may not update until clicked and changed.
- When selecting an expansion preset while currently in factory content, or vice versa, it may need to be clicked twice to trigger the change.
- Left and right arrows occasionally produce odd behavior cycling expansion content. Nothing crazy, it just might go out of order for some reason.
Finally, Silent Guy Vol. 3 is now available as a GuyEngine V2 expansion. You can simply download it from the same page as the sample pack. Still free. https://soundfontguy.itch.io/silent-guy-vol-3-sample-pack
I hope you're having fun with GuyEngine, and please share anything you make with it!
